"Every thing is impossible until you make up your mind to do it."(published as an executive epigram of Mumtaz A. Piracha in 'The International Management' magazine, London in the 80's).

How true it is, you know only by going through the drills and frills of life. Life is what you make it. You are destined for a good life. That is the core belief that you must have, to begin with. If you don't have a good life, there ought to be something wrong somewhere. Maybe, you did not learn to cope with the strains and stresses of day to day living as a human being. Maybe, you expected life to be free of all scars, aches and pains. Maybe, you indulged in grumbling as to why life was so painful to you. Life is neither painful nor pleasurable in toto. It is a blend of pain and peace, joy and sorrow, love and hate. The cycles keep changing. Life is never the same for all time to come for anybody, anywhere on earth.

The world around us is beautiful. Look around and see the beauty of living humans, birds, stars, flowers, trees, mountains, moon, sky. Beauty is all around us. There is nothing ugly. It is the brightness of mind that matters; not the darkness of heart. A heavy heart can never see the brightness and liveliness of happenings around us.

What really matters in life? You, your family, your relatives, your friends and any body and every body you care for or he/she cares for you. It is like a snorkel going up and up to touch the heights. At the end of the ladder is the Ultimate, the God, by whatever name you call Him.

It is God in Christianity, Baghwan in Hinduism, Allah in Islam. But it is there in every religion and in the mind of every mortal; no matter somebody believes in Him or not. He is there anyway, regardless of who feels Him and who does'nt.

You have got to have a commitment to life and to everybody and everything that comes your way that needs your commitment. You are committed to yourself. You are committed to your family. You are committed to your job, profession or occupation. You are committed to your employer. You are committed to your nation and country. You are committed to your God.

What is commitment, by the way? It is 'accepting responsibility' for your own self, your family, your relatives, your friends, your employers, your occupation, your nation, your country and your God. You accept that you have obligations, not only the rights.

What is your own Self? Self is the soul and the body. Body houses the wonderful architecture of the human anatomy. Soul is the energy, the power, the current that keeps you going. Without it, the body is fit only for burial. Soul is the link between the Man and the God. It is the channel of communication between us and our God. God is so close to us that we can't even imagine the distance.

There are always two sides of a coin; one for the winner, the other for the loser. There is nothing wrong with the coin. It is the swing that it takes from the hand of the person who plays with it.

There is a letter captioned 'From the death cell' published in the 'Letters to the Editor' columns of Daily 'Dawn' Karachi, Pakistan (Jul 15, 2007). You can read it on the internet edition of the newspaper. It is from a convict of the death cell. He writes and I quote excerpts: " In the last more than five years, I have spent in what is called the 'grave of living dead,' I often considered myself to be living in the hostel of a university. I was 17 years old and just matriculate after I landed in jail...For me, jail proved to be a college as I did intermediate when my case was under trial; and the death cell literally turned into a university as first I did my bachelor's in political science and law and this year I got my master's degree in international relations..."

Without prejudice to the merits of his case, his exemplary attitude, approach and accomplishments, while living in a death cell, are indeed commendable. I have created a poll to vote for one or more of the optional answers under the question "What should be done to the convict?" There are four optional answers to the question. Each question has a box. You just have to tick in the box. If you are unable to see the question, please move your cursor on the space along the box and you will see the answer.

So, never be afraid. Everything is impossible. It is just a matter of time and efforts before you make it possible and relieve yourself of the fears, doubts, uncertainties at the crossroads of life. All our lives, most of us if not all, fear the 'unknown' because we don't know what is going to happen next moment, next day, next week, next month or next year. We are not crystal gazers. We have to live each moment as it comes. So, be prepared for the best and the worst moments with the confidence and faith that you will be able to make the best use of the best moments and the best use of the worst moments.

So much for now with the famous quote of Thomas Jefferson, one of the founding fathers and presidents of the U.S. He said: "one man's courage is a majority." Give my blog a thought and share with me your thoughts. I don't want to know whether or not I am right; I would just like to know just YOUR thoughts.

Have a wonderful life and the best of everything!

Mumtaz A. Piracha
